Sustainable Creativity Course, Mexico City

A course was held at the ESRU Foundation headquarters for the beneficiaries, in which they learned to reuse everyday materials and create decorative and functional objects such as lamps, flowerpots, and seats. The purpose of this course was to provide the participants with tools they could later use as a source of income.

Testimony

A few months ago, the ESRU Foundation invited me to a recycling class. I accepted and made some time for it. I attended, and I enjoyed it because I'm a woman eager to learn.
I learned to reduce, recycle, and reuse materials like paper, plastic, cardboard, wood, fabric, wire, and rubber. I made things from small to large: with plastic bottles (soda bottles) we made stools, flower pots, piggy banks, and plastic bag lids to preserve food; with bottles (juice or milk) we made sewing kits and lunchboxes; with cardboard (cereal boxes), filing cabinets, small tables, and picture frames; with Tetra Pak (milk bottles), cell phone cases; with wire (clothes hangers) and fabric, cat houses and paper towel holders; with wood (clothespins and clothespins), paper towel holders, key holders, and napkin rings; with rubber (car tires), seats and tables; and with newspaper, gift bags and coasters.

I learned how to repurpose or reuse things that could be called "trash" by giving them a personal use, and I learned how to develop my imagination and creativity. I also learned how to sell the products I made to cover my household expenses. The classes also helped me socialize, meet people, and make more friends.

Everything I have learned is thanks to the support of the ESRU Foundation, teachers and classmates
