Awards

For the ESRU Foundation, it is important to recognize and acknowledge the work and efforts of young students from different academic and social levels, motivating new generations to become proactive and active. For this reason, spaces for expression have been created where the work, talent, and creativity of Mexican children and youth are recognized through awards.
More than 31,049 girls , boys, and young people have participated through essays, drawings, photographs, and videos on various topics of social interest.

Since 2006, in conjunction with the Colegio de Bachilleres, the ESRU Foundation has held a writing contest open to all students from the institution's 20 campuses. Students are invited to write a text on various topics of interest, including autobiographical texts. This contest was created to encourage critical thinking among high school students and the ability to question the world around them. The top three winners from each campus receive a laptop, a tablet, and an iPod, respectively. An overall winner is also selected and awarded a trip to Spain.
Beginning in 2016, to commemorate the contest's tenth anniversary, the ESRU Opina-Profesores (ESRU Teachers' Opinion) campaign was launched, open to all teachers at the Colegio de Bachilleres. The participating texts are related to topics that seek to strengthen teaching.
Fifteen cash prizes are awarded to the top five, second-place finishers, and third-place finishers.

This year, 2022, in conjunction with the Colegio de Bachilleres Puebla, Campus 36, the ESRU Foundation is holding the first writing contest, "Opina 2022."
Students were invited to write a text on various topics of interest.
This contest was created to encourage critical thinking among high school students, as well as to question the world around them.
The first three winners from Campus 36 will receive a laptop, a smartphone, and a digital camera, respectively.
The first-place winner, with the writing "How do I see myself in 5 years and what am I doing to get there?... Maybe you already know...", is Tiffany Danae Corona Pascual.

Since 2011, the ESRU Foundation has held a drawing and painting competition for at-risk youth between the ages of 12 and 20 living in Mexico City. The competition is held in coordination with other civil society organizations specializing in this segment of the population.

This competition seeks to promote interest in and development of artistic skills in children and young people, which will allow them to strengthen different forms of coexistence and expression.

Due to the overwhelming response and high participation among young people, the ESRU Foundation decided to expand its competition so that more adolescents in various institutions and in various vulnerable situations would have the opportunity to participate. In 2017, the competition was held with the participation of seven institutions whose mission is to improve the educational and life quality of children and young people at social risk. Furthermore, the ESRU Foundation has included a segment not previously considered in the competitions: children with physical and/or mental disabilities.

In 2023, as part of an effort to refresh the competition's image and keep it relevant, the competition's name and visual identity were changed, giving rise to ESRU Dibuja .

The competition is being held in coordination with various civil society organizations specializing in working with this segment of the population. The goal of the competition is to foster interest in and development of artistic skills in children and young people, which contribute to strengthening diverse forms of coexistence and expression.

Due to the overwhelming response and enthusiastic participation of young people, the ESRU Foundation decided to expand its competition, opening its doors to more adolescents in different institutions and vulnerable situations. In 2012, the ESRU Foundation held a model altar of the dead contest in the city of Puebla, in which more than thirty models were received, in which children displayed their own mini altar of the dead. The goal of this contest was to promote creativity in elementary and secondary school children.
ESRU held an exhibition of the twenty best entries and awarded a bicycle to the top two places in each category.

Last October, we launched the "La huesuda ambiental" (The Environmentally Boney Catrina) contest. We invited elementary and secondary school students to participate by creating a Catrina made from recycled materials. The response we received was excellent: we received more than 100 Catrinas from different schools in the state of Puebla. Each one reflected the individual perspective of each student, but also consolidated common elements that unite us and identify us as Mexicans: color, humor, and creativity. On Friday, October 28, 2016, we presented the award ceremony and inaugurated the 2016 Catrinas exhibition. Through these projects, the ESRU Foundation not only stimulates the development of creativity but also enlivens Mexican traditions in such a way that we reflect on them and connect with our current situation.

In 2008, university students studying communications, film, or other related fields were invited to make a four-minute video depicting the lives of people with hearing impairments. The top three winners received prizes such as a digital camera, a laptop, and an iPod, respectively.

In order to promote reading and writing skills in the most disadvantaged sectors of the country, Fundación ESRU launched, in 2005, together with the Ministry of Public Education of the State of Puebla and the civil association Contracorriente, the contest *The Magic of Don Quixote of La Mancha*. The invitation was extended to public elementary schools in the state of Puebla. Participants wrote a story about their experience reading *Don Quixote*, intended to be read aloud.

The winner of this contest was awarded a trip to Spain.

In 2011, Fundación ESRU held a photography contest titled *Your Death*. The objective of this contest was to promote creativity and reflection on the theme of death among university students through art. More than one hundred photographs were submitted, in which participants shared their personal perspectives on death.
Fundación ESRU organized an exhibition featuring the twenty best entries and awarded laptops and cash prizes to the top three winners.
